Plant Project Guidelines

Plant Project Guidelines:

You must have your plant project wiki up to date by Friday February 11th.

Your wiki will be assessed using the following expectations:
  • Monitor your plant over the period of the school year and communicate the following on a wiki
  • Pictures of your plant over time (very beginning until the very end)
  • Very detailed observations and measurements of your plant’s growth
  • Document any changes that are happening with detailed pictures of the features
  • Charts, tables, graphs, etc. that help you to interpret your plant’s growth over time
  • Include any research you do about your plant and include the references for where you got your information from

Here is a guidelines sheet that was handed out at the beginning of the project:

Free resources for finding seeds, cuttings, root stock, etc. to grow:
USDA Germplasm Database
Use this link to search by the scientific name of your plant to see if the USDA Germplasm facilities have the plant you are interested in growing (scroll down the page and type in the common name in the "common name" box under the heading "Taxonomy"). If you find something you are interested in, email me the following information from the plant's accession page:
  1. Common Name
  2. Accession number (at the top of the accession page for that plant)
  3. Scientific Name (below the accession number on the page for that plant)

High Quality Wiki Example

See this wiki from a past project to get a sense of what a high quality wiki would look like (do remember that you must organize yours in separate pages instead of all one page like the example student did).
